I've been watching a lot of makeup gurus lately. GRWMs (get ready with me), tutorials, lookbooks, etc., etc., etc. There's been an increase in the number of Somali influencers, and one thing I hear Somali influencers bring up again and again is their "big Somali forehead." "Fivehead" as some call it. So when I drew the sketch of this lady, I immediately thought of the "big Somali forehead." I'm not sure what specific ethnic group the other silhouette women fit into, but this one here is intended to be Somali.
Let's get this out of the way. I hate that vest thing. She was originally supposed to be just wearing that striped shirt because I LOVE the way those longer, flowy hijabs look over striped shirts, but I could not for the life of me make the stripes run properly. So I broke down and threw a vest thing on here, and it's terrible. It ruins the whole thing. It looks like she was gonna cosplay as some kind of medieval thing and forgot. The rest of everything else looks great save for that bloody vest. I don't even care that it creates a new middling value. It's terrible, it looks awful, it makes me angry, and I hate it.
Now that that's out of the way, I do like this lineart. Lots of variation for depth and interest. The shading on her hijab is smooth and executed just as I'd wanted. I especially like the way the sleeve on her thumbs-up hand is shaded.
Thanks for reading~
