Given that this girl has apparently multiple cuts in the same area, looks miserable, and appears to be binge drinking on a ledge, this piece has a dark implication I did not originally intend.
Yet another picture that was supposed to be something else. And honestly, it was going to be really cool. It was going to be a shot of a boy pulling a black string from a black area on the upper section of the paper. It would look like he was unraveling the black background. But I could not find useful photo reference for that to save my bloody life. So I flipped through my sketchbook and found a sketch of someone lounging. I only had so much time, so I had to build a whole piece out of that.
Considering I didn't have much of a sketch to start with, this is pretty good. As I said in my initial tweet, it's rather empty. And the values are not quite as stark as I like them, but I think it's a more engaging picture than my usual fare: there's actually a background, props, an environment, and whatnot. At least there's a sense of depth because of the tree, even though the girl and her cans appear to occupy the same plane of depth. Whoops.
That being said, looking at it now, I didn't realize that the linework is pretty good. This is more true for her skin and hair. The little line breaks add a... something. I can't put my finger on what, but it's nice. However, as decent as this is, I think it really would be best served as a digital piece. Sans necklace. She was supposed to look like she was from the early 60s, maybe the mid-60s, hence the ugly necklace, but it looks off. I think it was supposed to camouflage the inelegant proximity of her arm lines and her boob lines. But still. Sans necklace.
Thanks for reading~
