Hoping WIP - Brief Musings on the Nature of Clipping Masks

Ugh. She's kind of a gross, fleshy color...

You know, it's odd. I never make the base under clipping masks the actual color of any of the local hues. It would just be confusing for obvious reasons. But I also never make any strides to make them look nice. It's an in-between stage, so it would seem to not be important.

But that's not true. This really is the stage to first see what the inked lines look like with color. It's all well and good to see them on top of the original pencils, but any problems they may have, any imbalances, wonkiness, jitteriness, any of that will be in sharp relief. That's important.

I dunno. I guess that means it's a good thing I don't try to make it look nicer? Any issues will seem more dire in an ugly picture than a nice one. I suppose the latter would technically have said issues be more visible, but if everything around them looks good, I might be compelled to barrel ahead in spite of them. Nothing's human is perfect, so I can forgive a few failings. If it all looks crummy, I'll be more inclined to remedy at least a few of them. Maaaaaybe?

As far as this picture goes, there's nothing glaring. I made a point of making the outer lines thicker, so that's balance there. The squishiness of her head and arms was unexpected but appreciated. Some lines are a bit unbalanced, like the line separating her skin and hair on her left (our right). It's a bit thicker than its opposite side. That being said, her hair is so dark is almost doesn't matter.

Still though, something to think about.

Thanks for reading.
