Keeping the colors unified was a real concern. That's the reason why I color the shadows/holds. That and because grey shadows look super dead. It's not like the world is gonna explode if I don't keep them (the colors in the pictures) unified enough. No, it's that I wanted to keep the range of hues(?) balanced and to a distinct minimum. Didn't have a number in mind or anything, but having the colors call to each other from different places of the piece keeps the eye in motion. In a pleasant way, of course. No need to make people dizzy.
All the color holds, if that's even what they're called, with all the shading. This is precisely the feel I wanted. Rosy, warm, sweet, and friendly. In addition to bringing +1 vibrancy to this miss, color holds have an effect of implying some interaction of the subject and light. You know that thing when there's a bright light going through your ear or that webbing between your thumb and the rest of your hand and it looks all red? Yeah, that. Whatever that is.
It occurs to me suddenly that I don't... quite know what her legs would be doing in this position. Maybe she's standing with wind blowing her hair, skirt, and necklace from behind? Am I the only one who says "nek-uh-liss" instead of "nek-liss/nek-lAYs?" I hope not.
Got to make her shiny.
Because the white more readily takes on other colors than a grey might (at least, as I see it), I'm not troubling to color the highlights on this one. Also, I do honestly like the look of white highlights. It just looks dewy or something.
The rim lighting, however - that I wanted to have a hue. I think it's the same color as her bow. Or maybe her flower thingies. On a Hard Light layer setting, they interact with the colors in the way I need.
Also, this picture is called "Bouffant Blonde." I'm gonna keep calling it "Woman," though, for consistency's sake.
