Hey, remember this from Inktober 2017? Yes, this was one of my best pics, as well as one of my favorites. The shading, energy, expression. It all worked out great here.
But while I'll always have a soft space in my heart for the original traditional, I've often wondered what this would look like kicked up a notch. You know, done, digitally.
Thankfully, time has been a friend to me of the late, and I've had time to find out.
For whatever reason, I wanted the pencils to be very pink. Guess I wanted to make it ultra girlish from the get-go.
One of the challenges was trying to keep some of the hair lines. In the traditional version, they were there to indicate the direction of the hair but also to indicate shiny blonde hair. Generally speaking where my work is concerned, that type of line work usually works best with pencil. But I imagined recreating it digitally might create some form of a texture, anyway. Also went ahead and gave her more freckles.
I don't think I've converted a complete traditional piece before. It's normally unfinished pencils or something I meant to convert the whole time. This was not THAT complex, but it went well enough.

The finished lineart.
A good recreation. It certainly didn't take too long (about an hour, I think). The main concern at play here was that the expressiveness from the pencil shading would be lost. Then I realized that would be fixed with color later on.
One of the benefits is that I can create color holds. They'll create a soft warmness. They'll also take it from a simple digital recreation of a traditional piece to standing on its own as a solid digital piece.
As of now, it is good.
