Candlelight WIP - Lineart

A concept-y piece I drew quite a while ago. "Lemon" is referring to the single yellow color I was to use with it. The whole boy was in shadow except for what's illuminated by the titular candlelight.

Sketches are almost always more energetic than a final pencil pass. Tying down the lines just sucks the impressionist life out of the image. Usually, anyway. Takes a lot of time, too. So lately, I've been trying to skip the traditional tie-down altogether and scan in stuff that looks like this.

I clean it up a bit, of course. Some of the details are wonky or else unclear. But this method sort of cuts out a step, even... though... it's... basically the step I'm cutting out, but as the steps are so closely intertwined (both done on the computer with the same tools as opposed to one done traditionally and one done digitally), it's practically one thing. At least, that's what I keep telling myself.

Here's the final lineart. It's simple enough. This piece is meant to be about the lighting, so I didn't need that much fancy line work happening here. Just enough to convey the image and give me enough information to extrapolate volumes for light to play around.
