"You Found a POTION!" WIP - Creating Two Panels from One

A lot of the gags in these oneshots are based on things changing in a panel while the main focus of said panel remains motionless. Not only does that save on time because it's less to draw, it, more importantly, can feel more abrupt. Especially if the character(s) is/are reacting to whatever the changes are. Plus, given our vantage point, it can feel like we're watching something bizarre happen "over there." Distance often makes things funnier. We're not up close and seeing all the little emotions that happen that might make it more worthy of sympathy, not humor necessarily. An example my comic teacher, Jerzy Drozd, always uses is if you see a stereotypical rich guy fall into a manhole from afar, it's really funny. But when you get close and actually see his injuries and how much pain he's in, it's really sad. A bit mean, yes, but you get the idea.

ANYWAY, this is an example of the first thing I mentioned: a detail in a panel changing whilst the rest of said panel's contents remain the same.

The original lineart was removed easily, as it was on a layer separate from the pencils. So using that, I drew a skull over his head and boney hands over his flesh mittens. The fortunate thing is that I also used the alive beardo as a based for all my coloring and shading in terms of the getup, lighting, and whatnot. The only thing I really had to concern myself with was the skeleton. As a matter of fact, I'd drawn a previous version of the skeleton, but I wasn't feeling it. Too boxy, trying too hard to be realistic. So I scrapped it and went with a way more cartoony skull.

Not sure all the points match up exactly, but hey, close enough...
