"You Found a POTION!" WIP - Background

Ooh, look at that sweet grey border~!

This is the inked lineart for the only background for the oneshot, "You Found a POTION!" Again. I rather like this more than finished thing I came out with.

Forests are not my forte. Well, backgrounds in general aren't, but forests are among that, certainly. But you know who makes really lovely forests? Disney, especially during that rough look era of their animation, i.e. in 101 Dalmatians. I looked at some backgrounds and saw that V shape for the tree. It was good for depth and silhouettes, so I incorporated that design in various parts of various trees. I also wanted to balance it out with bushes, especially since at some point Sheriff reaches into a bush. Aside from some general execution things, I think this is quite good, given my background in backgrounds.

That being said, as much as I like this background, I really don't know if I'm going to use this. It's nice enough, but it's so busy. Plus, I don't know if it fits the style. In "A Simple Escort Mission," the backgrounds were extremely simple (hah) and unobtrusive. Yeah, the other comic was in South Africa (or at least somewhere in southern-ish Africa), and this is in a forest, but the style from comic-to-comic is not cohesive. It's not necessarily meant to be, but it's such a big jump. Like a jump off a cliff.

It's good I'm so far ahead. If I really do want to completely scrap the background and create something simpler, I have the time to do that. Stay ahead, people. That way, when massive unexpected issues need to be resolved, you have plenty of wiggle room. Stay ahead.

Gives me some ideas for drawing some backgrounds for fun, though. Gives me lotsa ideas~
