A handful of more expressive shots of Jay during the first pass of inking.

These are some of my favorite shots from this pass. Sometimes, it's really hard to draw interesting poses. Same with expressions. I'm thankful that I was able to get a good handful of nice poses and funny faces in this strip. At least, I think they're good, anyway.

Jay flies wildly off-model in each panel. Her chin, her hair, to some smaller extent, her eyes. But that's okay, and no, I'm not saying that to cover for laziness. For another project, I might be more attentive to maintaining a more strict representation of the design, but for her, I like the flexibility of the approach(?). I like being able to obliterate her chin if it's getting in the way or make her arms scrawnier if it's more amusing. I may or may not have said this before, but the thought process behind this style is based heavily on the art of "Ren and Stimpy" and how expressive and cartoony it could be.

I could be wrong, but here's how I see it. As long as the characters maintain their general proportions and specific idiosyncrasies, the exact execution of details can vary. Within reason. Jay is about three or so heads tall, has tense and bulgy eyes, a big, bubbly Afro, those cinnabun things on her ears, thin limbs, a tank top, a sash, puffy pants, knee-high boots, and is shaped a bit like an ant. There are probably more things, honestly. But she's the only one in the story that looks anything at all like that. So generally speaking, if I generally stay true to those general things, Jay will always look like Jay. Generally.
