Clubbing WIP - Page 4 Final Pencils

The final pencils of Page 4.

I generally shy away from backgrounds in my comics. I've just never been that good at them, plus I've never been that good at what to put into the background to make them interesting. However, with such a heavy emphasis on this kind of pacing involving the passage of time and whatnot, I had to get into them.

My issue with them, I find, was that I was trying to hard to make them look too realistic. I don't like realistic anyway, and none of my characters look that realistic, so why the Sam Hill would the backgrounds look like that? Of course, certain styles can pull that off, like how The Adventures of Tintin have very cartoony characters but very detailed, realistic backgrounds. And maybe I'll get that good in the future, but for now, if I want to produce something, I ought to run with something more my speed. These deliberately lopsided, goofy backgrounds are not only cohesive with the current art style I'm using here, they are very fun to draw.
