The thumbnails for Page 2.

Originally, I had no clue what enemies Jay and Sheriff were going to fight. I knew they had to be monsters of some sort, monsters that were easy to draw but still expressive. Before I even began drawing the thumbnails, I had to create a number of monsters. Not all the ones I want. My thought was that I would need around five distinctly different monsters: one basic monster, one magic-using monster, one strong yet slow monster, one weak yet fast monster, and then some other fifth one. I dunno, maybe a high DEF, high HP one or one that heals other monsters. Something...

Funny things show up when you write a comic. Jay's inadvertently developed a habit of pointing at whoever she's attacking. She also appears to be tentatively ambidextrous, at least where attacking is concerned. She's clearly favoring her right hand, while Sheriff is a fairly clear lefty. Now, he has been a left-hand man, but Jay using both hands was unplanned. Honestly, it was a mistake because directions and I don't mix, but I'm not entirely unhappy with the outcome.

The majority of panels are intended to be in the same aspect ratio, but that one with the surly rhino is meant to be not only larger but meant to help sell the scale of the monster they encounter. I originally drew the panel in the same size before deciding on the bigger panel. What may actually happen is that I might add an additional beat in the original sketch of the panel. That'll have to wait for when I add minor details to the script before doing the final pencils.
