Pre-Inktober Piece: Almost Goofed This Up Until I Didn't

A final warmup before the event proper~ I drew this entirely on my new setup with the board and whatnot. Really happy with how it came out... Especially considering what happened...
I made a huge blunder here. While filling in the blacks, I overfilled my brush, and in my hubris, I didn't test it because "I'm great with a brush. I don't need a test rag." And then the biggest, blackest stream of ink poured down the right side of my poor, beautiful pencil drawing. If only you could have heard the internal screaming. And guess who hadn't taken one, single photograph of the original pencils?
BUT...
"I can fix this," I said to myself. "It's not over. I put too much effort into this to give up now." So I thought, and I thought hard. The stream ran over a corner of her hair and down to about an inch or two from the bottom. But it was far enough from her body to create a border. Or perhaps a backdrop? Yeah! Following the accidental line, I made a box around Jay. Once I filled it in, it became a backdrop. With a white gel pen, I reestablished the outer highlight of her hair so that she popped out from the background. With that same pen, I added a slight halo around her body and clothes. The name at the bottom was completed with - guess what? - the gel pen.
The takeaway? All is not lost. Yes, some mistakes are permanent, but "some" does not equal all, even where inks are concerned.
Good grief. What a start to Inktober...
