Five More Days

Five more days, and another set of panels.

Still some things to fix here. Backgrounds, additional shadows/highlights, and a bit of additional cleanup. I'm hoping (against hope) that I can push my output enough so that my schedule allows for a full day of cleanup before I have to edit this thing into a video. Then again, the last comic I edited into a video took far less time than I thought it would, so hey, maybe it'll be easier than I anticipate.

You can see what I mean by the multiple iterations of the same panel here. It's mostly with the cave. I have one or two other planned for later on, but for both time and pacing reasons, I may have to nix 'em.

I'm quite glad I decided to do this. It really highlights my strengths and weaknesses, which was more or less the point of this thing in the first place. For one, I feel a weird issue is that I know what something is supposed to look like in terms of a number of rules, i.e. staging, framing, using colors that aren't completely terrible, etc. However, I don't have the skill to render it consistently.

Actually, now that I type this and see these panels at this size, they look so much better than they did up close. Sometimes I wonder if I'm working at the wrong scale. 'Cause from back here, everything looks great. The aforementioned staging looks is pretty clear. With some tweaking, the images could be more instantly readable. It's all pretty nice. But when you go in closer, it goes from pretty nice to "Oh... oh no..." Maybe I should reconsider at what scale I should work. Or what stories I want to tell. Or maybe I just need to git gud, I dunno. I suppose that's a common artist problem to have.
