The Explorers - Choice Linearts

Of the 50 panels made for "The Explorers," there are quite a few that were totally okay. There are about as many that were not as good as I would like. But there are a cherished handful that I really do like. Here they are. You can also see my creative names for each panel.

Now, originally with the other pictures, the brushwork was done with a default Photoshop brush. Then it was converted into pure black-and-white pixels for easier flatting. Easier, yes, but here's the thing: the soft imperfections of a custom brush, like the one seen in the lineart above, create a more natural texture and a far more intimate experience with the lineart. Yes, that's a weird way to describe it, but it's true, or so I feel. While other (better) artists can make a perfectly smooth line look approachable and almost friendly, I like the personal, tangible nature of these fuzzy lines. It's almost as if you can feel the artist's hand behind the lines.

Of course... in preserving the tangibility of these lines, I can no longer convert them to black-and-white for easy flatting, forcing me to change much of my process. Previously, I could just BLOOP drop colors into the appropriate negative spaces into the lineart. Now, I have to either take to use the lasso or else actually paint it in by hand. Did I mention this is the first time I decided to switch to this method? What a time to experiment...

Also, no, I don't know why the typically blue bluelines are purple. I suppose when you're an artist and a shut-in, the most adventurous you can get is to make lines a funny color.
