Boy 3, also known as Shad Banks, is not only one of the better-looking/executed designs I ended up with for "We City Folk," he was also one of the reasons why I decided to use the original sketches as the basis for the final inking.
When I started doing the initial drawings for each character, I started with larger drawings to capture their appearance and personality and to acclimatize myself to their overall character. Then, I did these tiny little drawings to test for a good pose. My original intention was to settle on something and then draw a bigger and better version later on.
However, so many of the final sketches, including this one, were so strong, I didn't trust myself to be able to capture the same energy again, so, with the exception of three instances, I decided to just use the tiny sketches as my final drawings. HA! Cut out a whole step. Plus, the fact that they were all tiny made it a heckuva lot easier to keep the proportions in check, an essential factor for a series of pinups. they were all about the length of a pinkie finger.
