Red Wizard - WIP 2

The Red Wizard was meant to be a vague sort of spoof/send-up of the Scarlet Witch, or more specifically how I see her: a neurotic sorcerer with plot device powers and a ridiculous costume who might just as easily ruin something as soon as fix it. He wasn't always supposed to be, though.

Originally, he was meant to be a one-off character who would get rescued and then never show up again. But for whatever, his persona and backstory amused me, so I planned him into more things. He was always intended to be a bit of a mess, like what's-her-name, yet he's also a bit of an absent-minded professor type. The similarities with the Red Wizard and the Scarlet Witch were there from the start, but there were mostly coincidental. Even the name "Red Wizard" was happenstance. Weird.

While the current incarnation of his personality was informed loosely by my impression of the Scarlet Witch, his design was actually informed early on by Scarlet Witch but also by DC Comics' Dr. Fate. He always had such a simple design, Dr. Fate, and I especially liked his helmet. The Red Wizard was originally called the "Blue Wizard" and was, shockingly, blue. Not sure what the reason for the change was, whether it was because I dislike the color blue or because "Red Wizard" sounds better than "Blue Wizard, but I'm happy with the result.

Fun fact: his getup is based on the classic Scarlet Witch costume. That means pink arms and legs.
