I wanted to make them look like those sepia photographs from the vintage 50s, so I made an adjustment layer to put over both photos. I actually might put another one over the tops of the whole panel and that for all panels involved. It would take out some of the general saturation. Here's what the base colors looked like.

Jay was, in fact, based on Clara Bow, as was this pose. The main difference was that Jay was supposed to look like a somewhat bloated has-been, someone who thinks they have "it" but are completely lacking "it." In every regard. Hence whatever face is going on here. Now that I think about it, I might end up changing the order of these panels...
The backdrop here was based on photos I see of people all the time. It often seems to be behind people during yearbook photos, graduations, etc. I watch a lot of true crime documentaries, and this background is in a lot of photos for missing persons, so that's possibly why it's stuck in my head for so long.
I'm getting Alice Faye vibes here for some reason. Wal-Mart clearance Alice Faye, but Alice Faye.
